As part of the latest design series, Barben has incorporated the ancient craft of Shou Sugi Ban which involves charring timber with fire. The process results in a black carbon layer on the timber which protects the material and reduces its maintenance requirements. Applying the fire treatment forces an additional barrier of protection against everyday use, furthermore increasing the overall durability. Barben uses a modernised Shou Sugi Ban technique, that evenly chars the face of the timber. This ancient Japanese artform has experienced a recent surge in popularity due to the aesthetic appeal as designs have evolved in both housing and commercial properties. However, what really makes Shou Sugi Ban stand out is its durability and longevity, even when exposed to the harsh Australian climate.

At Barben we have a selection of styles and sizes including round, square, offset and paddle pop. Each handle is fitted with Matt Black powder coated standoffs allowing the character of the handle to shine. The standoffs on these handles are manufactured using our state of the art CNC machinery and then powder coated in our oven. By completing each component of the handle in our factory allows the team to ensure the quality of a Barben handle is second to none. We are able to monitor each step of the process and focus on quality assurance prior to the handle leaving the factory.
Each Shou Sugi Ban handle is created in our Brisbane factory and consequently, no two handles are the same. The unique rawness of each handle creates a talking point and a wow factor to your entry way.
